Can you “size” a sterling silver ring?
I purchased a sterling silver ring with three diamonds as a Christmas gift. I would have purchased platinum or white gold but I liked the style of the sterling silver ring by far more than than the other styles. The sales manager told me that all their men’s rings come into the store are a size 10. The gift recipient needs about a size 11.5. The sales manager told me I could bring the gift recipient in and the ring will be “sized” so that it is an 11.5. However, when I called a friend who is knowledgeable about jewelry and told her about my purchase she said sterling silver cannot be “sized”. It has something to do with heat needed to re-size a ring that sterling silver cannot tolerate without being damaged but platinum and white gold are strong enough to go through the process.
Well understand your worries. Silver ring could be resized. From your word, the ring need to be resized to a little bigger one. But the band will become thinner as the jeweler need to make it bigger. Gold and Silver Rings are easy for resizing, but for other metals, it is difficult and the cost for resizing is equal to a new cheap metal -made ring. Just tell the jeweler to make it bigger for you if you don’t care about the thinner band…
